Fast of Lord Shiva should be observed on the Mondays of Shravan month. After fast, lord Ganesha, Shiva, Mata Parvati and Nandi should be worshipped. Worship material includes:- water, milk, curd, sugar, ghee, honey,Panchamrit, clothes, Janeu, Roli, rice, flowers, Bel-leaves,Bhang,Dhatura,lotus,Prasaad,Betle leaves and nuts, cloves, cardamom, dry fruits, donations etc.
In the year 2012, this month will be from 4th July to 2nd August. Lamps, incense sticks are lit and Aarti is performed by burning camphor. After puja, food is taken once. Significance of Shravan masa should be heard.
Shravan Masa : Shiva Upasna Importance
Shravan Month is very dear to lord Shiva. On every Monday of this month, worshipping lord Shiva fulfills all wishes of a person. Devotees perform Puja and Abhishek of lord Shiva. It is believed, out of all the God, lord Shiva can be easily pleased. just by offering Bel leaf, sins of three births are removed.
It is believed, the person who observe the Monday fast of Shravan month, one Pradosh fast and Shivaratri fast , does not have any wish incomplete. This virtues received by visiting 12 Jyotirlingas,are attained by observing this fast.
This fast is observed for many purposes. Ladies observe the fast of 16 Monday’s (Solah Somwar), for the longevity of their married life and happiness of child. Unmarried girls observe this fast to get their choice of husband. The old ones of a family observe this fast for getting wealth, happiness and fame.
Shiva Pujan : Use of Bel Leaves
Lord Shiva fulfills the wishes of his devotees, without their asking, if worshipped with Bel leaves. It is believed, a person who gives water or Ganga Jal to the tree of Bel, he achieves the virtues of visiting all pilgrimages. He receives happiness in this Lok and goes to Shiva Lok after death. It is said that Lord Shiva resides in the roots of Bel Patra tree. This Puja gives a person, fruits of bathing in all the spiritual places.
Sawan Masa Fast Method
Observing the fast of Sawan, a person achieves the virtues of visiting all pilgrimages.Person observing this fast should wake up early in the morning , on the day of fast. Lord Shanker and his family is worshipped in the month of Shravan. Sawan Somwar fast are observed from sunrise to sunset. On the day of fast, Monday fast story should be heard. And person observing fast should have food after sunset, only once.
Person should wake up early in the morning and complete the routine work. After this, house should be cleaned and Ganga Jal or some holy water should be sprinkled. Then, idol or picture of lord Shiva is placed in the Ishan kon (North-East direction) of house. Now, the resolution of Sawan Masa fast if taken.
Sawan Masa : Kavad Mela
At many places of India, Kavads are served, in Sawan month. From the first day of Shravn masa itself, huge crowd of devotees gather at Hari ki Pauri of Haridwar. Before sunrise, worshipers reach different Ghats of Ganga. They collect Jal and start marching towards their destinations.
